I remember when I took him to the aquarium once, we were walking through the tunnel and he asked me, " What do you think heaven would be like?" At the time I wasn’t sure what to say, besides a haven with all things good and no suffering. To which he replied "I am excited to meet God and to be with him one day." It brought tears to my eyes.
HUNTER SAID,
This is for every child who dares to live with hope. And for a boy who showed us all how.

Our Hyrox journey started for a reason much bigger than fitness.
It started for Shirley’s son, Hunter.
At just two years old, he was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer.
By nine, he had lost his sight, his hearing, his voice…
And then, in November last year, she lost him.
Hunter was extraordinary.
He was kind. Gentle. Faithful.
He saw beauty everywhere and in everything.
He never complained.
He encouraged everyone.
He was a little boy who lived with a heart full of hope.
Hyrox became a lifeline.
A way for Shirley to breathe again.
And for me to help her keep going.
We raced in Joburg to honour him.
We’ll race again in Cape Town to do the same,
But also to build something lasting.
A way that he will be remembered forever.
Hunter’s Hope — a project in his name.
Set up to share the hope he had in his heart.
As we race this time, we will be raising funds
To help another little boy go to school.
Not for his academics or his sporting ability —
But because he is kind, compassionate,
full of heart.
Just like Hunter.
This is for every child who dares to l
ive with hope.
And for a boy who showed us all how.
